Markieth Laymon Stokes Killed When Semi Crashes Into Pickup Truck

February 23, 2016--BELL COUNTY, Texas Officials have released the identity of a man killed Tuesday morning in one of two separate 18-wheeler wrecks that for a time had traffic on Interstate 35 blocked at Troy and Salado.

Investigators say Markieth Lamon Stokes, 46, of Killeen, was killed when an 18-wheeler slammed broadside into his pickup truck along Interstate 35 in Troy.

Police said the pickup truck hydroplaned in high water and stalled across the main lanes of the highway.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken by ambulance to a Temple hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The wreck near Salado happened first, at around 1:30 a.m., and involved two truck tractor, semi-trailers and a small car, Department of Public Safety troopers said.

No one was injured in that accident in which speed evidently played a factor as the driver of a southbound rig lost control of the truck, which hit a concrete barrier.
