November 25, 2014 - SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — Northbound lanes of Interstate 35 in San Marcos reopened nearly 12 hours after a deadly crash involving two 18-wheelers and six other cars. City officials say four other people were hurt in the crash, but their injuries were not expected to be life-threatening. Two semitrucks and another car were also destroyed in a fire that broke out after the crash.
Police say traffic was slowing down for a minor crash when an approaching gravel truck swerved and sideswiped two semis and two other passenger cars before crashing into a barrier in the middle of the highway. The impact caused gravel the truck was carrying to spill into southbound lanes of traffic. One vehicle heading south was damaged by flying gravel, police said.
The gravel truck continued on, hitting another car. That car was then pushed into another semi, and the three cars caught fire.
